After interviewing Kate thelifeguardlibrarian awhile back, I noticed things have taken off with the librarians-on-tumblr phenomenon, with Kate at the forefront as an informal organizer and motivator. Here, I ask her about what’s changed, both in her life and in what it means to be a librarian on tumblr, since we last talked.
I had way too much fun with the Pulp-O-Mizer. I wanted a catchy title and remembered the Kate and the Tumblarians post. I thought “It’s a cool band name, but also a cool Book Series Name!” I hope Kate doesn’t mind too much that I used her for Issue 1.

1. Can you tell us about your current position?
I coordinate the Learning Center at a residential treatment facility for youth in Chicago. The Learning Center effectively functions like a small media center might in a school—I coordinate the resources kids need to do their homework (books, computers, etc.), and then supervise and assist them in their work. I’m learning a lot about what my future career in professional librarianship might look like as I dabble in instruction, collection development and reference. I’m also really helpful at formatting that perfect picture of LeBron or Nicki Minaj to print out and tape on your bedroom door.
