Best news ever: Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey will be reworked as a contemporary teen thriller by Val McDermid, author of THE VANISHING POINT. Northanger Abbey may be the “least-read” Austen, but it’s my favourite.

I don’t think Austen’s concern for virtue translates into modern adaptations very well, which is why pretty much no one tries to mess with Mansfield Park, I guess. Since Northanger Abbey is comparatively fluffy, this might actually work.
