What Should Candidates Wear?
re: what to wear to job interviews in various library subfields
NB: I have not worn a real suit to any of the library interviews I’ve had in the Valley. When I was first here, I’d wear this little black-with-baby-pink-detailing number which was the first suit I’d found which fit*, but I consistently felt absurd and self-conscious and overdressed. After that, I mostly stuck with a wool skirt and blouse-with-cardigan in winter, finished with tights and boots, and a black silk dress with a belt, flats and cardigan the rest of the year. I feel a lot more confident in this sort of getup. What’s your view, especially those on the other side of the hiring table?

*a combination of contributing factors include inheriting my grandmother’s tiny shoulders and my entire clan’s stinginess toward clothing
