E. Washington library wins suit; it can filter porn | Seattle Times Newspaper
One of the things I definitely agree with the Annoyed Librarian about is that librarians should spend less time defending the right to view pornography in public libraries.
Of course, I do think that filters need to be better such that they don’t filter out necessary information that is non-pornographic (sexual health information, for example). On this note, though, I refuse to believe that our tech isn’t sufficiently advanced enough at this point to do this.
But, more importantly, this isn’t the sort of publicity libraries need. No one should be linking porn and libraries together.
(and not because porn is bad or shameful, but because until adults are allowed to have sex in public, I don’t see how viewing porn in a public library is different)
Good news for public libraries, I’ll go ahead and say.
(Also, especially in our current space, there is definitely no division between the computers and anything else. Having to ask someone to leave because of what they’re looking at is embarrassing for everyone.)
